Summary

The bleakness of life at Auschwitz。 Whereas Primo Levi stayed in the infirmary and was found by the Red Army, Wiesel was put on the march back in to Germany and was found by the US Army at Buchenwald。

So so sad。 Extremely eye-opening and disgusting at the same time。 I was disgusted by the Germans and their lack of humanity。

This book 📖 is gripping and heartbreaking all in one。 To hear his journey and accounts will bring you to tears 。 The Holocaust should NEVER BE FORGOTTEN JUST LIKE SLAVERY! To know that humans are capable of such evil is unbelievable but believable at the same time !2021 and Hitler from the dead still has a hold on some many ****ts ! His Nobel Peace Speech at the end is so Powerful ! Let’s 🙏🏽 that no form of this atrocities ever happens again ! We can NEVER FORGET TRUE HISTORY !

I first read this book for 9th grade English class, and as an English teacher myself I've included it (or excerpts of it) in my curriculum。 I read it yet again on the way to visit Auschwitz。 I couldn't think of any other literary work that would better remind me of the significance of the place I was about to see。 The tour guide said that everyone should visit a concentration camp once in their lives to learn about the past。。。。but if that's not possible, reading "Night" is the closest you'll com I first read this book for 9th grade English class, and as an English teacher myself I've included it (or excerpts of it) in my curriculum。 I read it yet again on the way to visit Auschwitz。 I couldn't think of any other literary work that would better remind me of the significance of the place I was about to see。 The tour guide said that everyone should visit a concentration camp once in their lives to learn about the past。。。。but if that's not possible, reading "Night" is the closest you'll come to grasping this horrific part of history。 。。。more

After having been exposed to Holocaust documentaries and movies over the years, I didn't think I would get as much out of reading "Night" as I did。 It's a great book。 The writing is brutally honest about not only the atrocities of the Nazis but also the crises of faith and moments of personal weakness in their victims。 It's done with a terse, conversational style that reads almost as if you were engaged in dialog with Wiesel, but on the other hand it is at times quite profound ("I was the accuse After having been exposed to Holocaust documentaries and movies over the years, I didn't think I would get as much out of reading "Night" as I did。 It's a great book。 The writing is brutally honest about not only the atrocities of the Nazis but also the crises of faith and moments of personal weakness in their victims。 It's done with a terse, conversational style that reads almost as if you were engaged in dialog with Wiesel, but on the other hand it is at times quite profound ("I was the accuser, God the accused。。。") and poetic ("Never shall I forget that night。。。。")。 Wiesel does not shy away from his own feelings of shame, shame forever, at how he felt towards his father, and for not answering his last words, which were calls to his son。 He relays other horrifying stories of a son killing his father for bread, a Rabbi's son distancing himself from his father intentionally during a forced run during an evacuation, and Jews trampling and suffocating one another。 There are poignant moments throughout, such as the last time he saw his mother and little sister, and how quickly they slipped out of his life forever。Wiesel also does not shy away from his feelings towards God at the time, e。g。 "Where is God? 。。。。 This is where - hanging from this gallows。" Or, the Jews as having transcended everything "death, fatigue, our natural needs。。。。we were the only men on earth。" One of the dying states "I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else。 He alone has kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people。" These types of thoughts are things that I did not anticipate and were fascinating to me。The introductory chapter in this edition included passages from the original Yiddish that I think should have survived editing, as well as an appendix that includes Wiesel's Nobel Prize acceptance speech。 There is no way anyone can truly understand what it was like to have been in a Concentration camp but this book provides insight into it in a very honest, humble way。 It more than accomplishes its goal of "bearing witness"; it is a moving, stirring book。 。。。more

Must ReadWritten so vividly of the atrocities and horror of what Elie went through。 History must not be repeated。 We have to teach。 We have to remember。

Horrifying story of the author’s survival at Auschwitz。 Hard to believe the Holocaust was allowed to happen。 Hard to believe that some in 2021 still deny it happening…

Read this book back in the day in high school。 A reminder of the importance of history and stories of the Holocaust。

I read this sophomore year of high school, and I'm amazed at how much of it I still remembered five years later。 It's a book that grabs the reader and does not let them go, and though it is very difficult to read, it is also extremely important to do so。 I read this sophomore year of high school, and I'm amazed at how much of it I still remembered five years later。 It's a book that grabs the reader and does not let them go, and though it is very difficult to read, it is also extremely important to do so。 。。。more

This was a great interesting read, and if you like a short book but with a lot going on you would love this book。 I could really picture what Wisel was going through and I wanted to jump through the book to help him and his father。 This book is very powerful and gives great insight on what it was like to live through the Holocaust。 I would recommend this book, especially if you like stories based on true events。

Genuinely heartbreaking。 No living being should ever have to experience or witness the horrors spoken about in this autobiography。"Those were the first human words。" (41)"But now, I no longer pleaded for anything。 I was no longer able to lament。 On the contrary, I felt very strong。 I was the accuser, God the accused。" (68)"I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else。 He alone has kept his promised。 all his promises, to the Jewish people。" (81)。 This one is especially💔"But then I remembered s Genuinely heartbreaking。 No living being should ever have to experience or witness the horrors spoken about in this autobiography。"Those were the first human words。" (41)"But now, I no longer pleaded for anything。 I was no longer able to lament。 On the contrary, I felt very strong。 I was the accuser, God the accused。" (68)"I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else。 He alone has kept his promised。 all his promises, to the Jewish people。" (81)。 This one is especially💔"But then I remembered something else: his son had seen him losing ground, sliding back to the rear of the column。 He had seen him。 And he had continued to run in front, letting the distance between them become greater。 A terrible thought crossed my mind: What if he had wanted to be rid of his father? He had felt his father growing weaker and, believing that the end was near, had thought by this separation to free himself of a burden that could diminish his own chance for survival。 (。。。) And in spite of myself, a prayer formed inside me, a prayer to this God in whom I no longer believed。 "Oh God, Master of the Universe, give me the strength never to do that Rabbi Eliahu's son has done。"" (91)"I took one gulp。 The rest was for him。 I shall never forget the gratitude that shone in his eyes when he swallowed this beverage。 The gratitude of a wounded animal。" (106)"One day when I was able to get up, I decided to look at myself in the mirror on the opposite wall。 I had not seen myself since the ghetto。 From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me。 The look in his eyes as he gazed at me has never left me。" (115) 。。。more

This book is heart breaking and overwhelming to read at times but I feel every person should read “Night”… the book is a true picture of the hate and evil of humanity when we walk away from Our Almighty creator and merciful God…。 Anyone one of us could be the perpetrator of pain on those we believe are less worthy or of value than we are…。 But fortunately Jesus came to show us The Way ❤️ and even in its horrors the book points to Him ❤️
